Edith J. Lyttleton letters to Paul A.W. Wallace, 1918- 1943.

The collection contains letters from Edith Lyttleton to her close literary friend, Dr. Paul A. W. Wallace (a Canadian-born and educated authority on Pennsylvania history), 1918-1941, and his wife, Dorothy, 1923- 1944; carbons of Wallace's replies, 1941; two letters on her illness and death from her brother Ray with carbons of Wallace's replies, 1945; letters from Helen Coleman to Wallace, 1933, and 1946-1947 with carbons of his replies; and a letter from Lyttleton to Miss Clarke, 1919. The letters from Lyttleton to Wallace cover a wide range of subjects but are largely literary, with comments on other writers (Hergesheimer, Byrne, Forster, and Kipling), on what the critics wrote of her work, on differences between the people in the various British commonwealths, and on her attitude toward and method of writing. Includes a Lyttleton family genealogy for the novel, Pageant. Also, includes a draft of Pageant, and photocopies of abstracts of her letters in the Colin Roderick papers in the Australian National Library, Canberra.
